Precipitated Calcium Carbonate CaCO3

Types of crystallization of Precipitated Calcium Carbonate and its practical applications

10/01/2018

Calcium carbonate CaCO3 is purified by precipitation to obtain PCC-Precipitated Calcium Carbonate-a derivative of greater industrial interest. With the transformation process -which follows the calcination, hydration and carbonation phases- different types of PCC are obtained and can be used as a filler for rubber, paper, ink, sealants, cosmetics, dentifrices, additives for plastics, components of pharmaceutical products, food products, etc.

The production is adapted to the needs of the client, since according to the size, the shape of the particles obtained, the distribution of the size of the crystals, and the surface area, different properties are obtained in the PCC.

Controlling some parameters in the precipitation process can achieve different crystallizations of Precipitated Calcium Carbonate:
– Spherical and rhombohedral particles coated superficially of nanometric sizes that are used in sealants.
– Rhombohedral and prismatic particles of micrometric size suitable for the paper industry.
– Particles in the form of needles that are usually used in paints.

In Cales de Llierca we offer different finishes of our CALPREC product. Ask us for more information.
