PCC

PCC

Precipitated Calcium Carbonate is, by a long way, the most complex product of all those that we make. At first glance, its production is only a matter of combining slaked lime with carbonic gas, but special controls and a mastery of the parameters that intervene in the precipitation reaction are required. In this way, it is possible to select with great precision the product features desired for a certain application. For some grades this is still not enough, since later treatment stages are also needed, to confer extra qualities.

The commercial brand for all our range of Precipitated Calcium Carbonates is CALPREC.

When comparing to Ground Calcium Carbonates (GCC), Precipitated Calcium Carbonates (PCC) can be distinguished, initially, for their smaller and uniform particle sizes, their more stable and narrower granulometric distribution, and their highest chemical purity.

Under a more detailed observation it can be seen that the great advantage of PCC, relative to GCC, is the possibility of having different crystalline forms which yield to predetermined physical properties.

For example, the opacity and whiteness of the product is important in some applications, while in some other cases the reological behaviour is the fundamental issue. Therefore, the different PCC grades are very distinct among them and the peculiarities of their use in each sector have to be necessarily discussed in close collaboration with the customers.
